USDA Organic Regulation Changes

The following amendments to articles 205.601, 205.605 and 205.606 of the USDA Organic Regulations were made on February 28, 2022 and announced by the USDA.
  1. 205.601 Synthetic substances allowed for use in organic crop production: It is allowed to use vitamins C and E for plant or soil improvement purposes in organic crop production.
  2. 205.605 Nonagricultural (nonorganic) substances allowed as ingredients in or on processed products labeled as “organic” or “made with organic (specified ingredients or food group(s)).”: The presence of Alginic acid as an ingredient in or on it is no longer allowed.
  3. 205.606 Nonorganically produced agricultural products allowed as ingredients in or on processed products labeled as “organic.”: Paragraphs between (d) and (t) were revised and paragraphs (u) through (w) were removed.
