USDA Organic Regulation Changes
The following amendments to articles 205.601, 205.605 and 205.606 of the USDA Organic Regulations were made on February 28, 2022 and announced by the USDA.
- 205.601 Synthetic substances allowed for use in organic crop production: It is allowed to use vitamins C and E for plant or soil improvement purposes in organic crop production.
- 205.605 Nonagricultural (nonorganic) substances allowed as ingredients in or on processed products labeled as “organic” or “made with organic (specified ingredients or food group(s)).”: The presence of Alginic acid as an ingredient in or on it is no longer allowed.
- 205.606 Nonorganically produced agricultural products allowed as ingredients in or on processed products labeled as “organic.”: Paragraphs between (d) and (t) were revised and paragraphs (u) through (w) were removed.
